It is the task of a leader to bring out the best in people.

And, we ALL are leaders.

We all are examples, role models, influencers. We all are on stage, we all are under observation, we all impact others.

It is possible to lead UP and SIDEWAYS. As a leader, I am impacted by my followers much more than I think they realize. As co-workers, as team members, we influence daily those around us. Leadership flows in ALL directions. After all, who can be leaders if they have no followers?

The concept of leading up as well as sideways is called 360-degree leadership. It requires that we own our words and actions 24/7 and we become aware of our words and actions on others.

Some of the greatest heroes in life are “everyday heroes,” ordinary people living their lives, doing their duty day in and day out with consistent grace and courage, serving as inspiration. So, too, are there “everyday leaders,” people who lead by example and encouragement, who quietly walk their talk, whose lives serve as illustrations that motivate and support those around them.
