Okay, I’m a businessman, an attorney, an accountant, have a building contractor’s license. All serious, serious stuff. Far removed from perhaps the conventional image of dreamers and lovers of poetry.

Ah, true confession time. I have many poems I treasure, poems that have spoken to my heart and soul, uplifted me, inspired and moved me, helped me find my way through trying times, given me hope and energy to continue to press on and not only to do so but to do so at my highest and best levels.

So today I share a small, simple poem. Not of great literary merit, nothing than would necessarily go down in the annuals of great writing but still… a favorite of mine.

Hold Fast Your Dreams
by Louise Driscoll

Hold fast your dreams!
Within your heart
Keep one still, secret spot
Where dreams may go,
And, sheltered so,
May thrive and grow
Where doubt and fear are not.
O keep a place apart,
Within your heart,
For little dreams to go!
