Good evening Mr. Collier,
I hope life is treating you well. When you get a moment could you please answer the below question?
Thank you for your time!
What do you think of Dave Ramsey and his hyper teaching against leverage and borrowing for business?
It all depends on your personal risk profile and motivation. Other than car and home I’ve never had personal debt and these days I’ve chosen to pay off both. I’ve ALWAYS paid off my credit cards EVERY month in full and have never, ever paid a penny of credit card interest.
Properly used debt can leverage your return on equity. I’ve used debt very carefully in my business, always working with bank/institutional lenders at reasonable rates, generally long term/fixed rate (construction loans the exception) never, ever high-priced mezzanine debt.
Debt must be used with discipline, it is like fire: properly controlled in your hearth, it warms your home. As wildfire, it burns down your home.
As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
