We’ve all heard the admonishment, “Don’t Shoot the Messenger!”.
Well, I urge you to take it a step further: HUG the Messenger! Thank them profusely. Delivering bad news takes courage. Yet, in order to solve problems and respond effectively, we need to know reality. No matter how unpleasant or unwelcome it may be.
Hugging the messenger sends a vital message: it is okay to tell the truth. Indeed it is more than okay, it is celebrated, honored and rewarded. Nothing can be solved until it is faced.
