We all have many roles we play in our lives. Two major roles of mine are businessperson and spiritual being.
In one role I am in full-blown pursuit of achievement and material gain in a balanced and principled manner. In the other role I seek enlightenment and spiritual growth. I often ponder the proper reconciliation of these roles, the possible conflicts.
I find resolution in many ways. First, I seek to create true, fundamental value in a free market where consumers have choices, an economic democracy. If I do my job right, my product satisfies real needs or wants and people are better off because of it. And I sleep well at night.
Second, I seek to create a company that I would want to work for, that attracts a group of people who I’m proud to be associated with, people who I look forward to seeing again in the morning.
Third, I truly believe that I have a deep and abiding obligation to ALL stakeholders, not just investors/owners/partners but to Customers, Team Members, Vendors/Suppliers (we are only as good as they are), AND our Community. Servant leadership and stewardship are significant, real values at The Collier Companies.
Finally, I seek to achieve and achieve greatly because I profoundly believe that in setting for ourselves challenging tasks, ambitious goals, and motivational targets, that we find abilities and strengths within ourselves that we knew not. It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves.
