Attitude is NOT everything. I’m not fond of the sayings “Attitude is Everything,” or even “Your Attitude Determines your Altitude.” Why? Because they take a great concept and undermine the truth by overstating it. Excessive hyperbole can create too big a target for cynics and may mislead those who take these sayings too literally. It could be I’m a stickler for precision and it may lack the ring, but the true statement is “Your Attitude Powerfully Impacts Your Altitude.”

Attitude is the edge, a compelling advantage. Since you never attempt what you believe to be impossible, a positive attitude energizes you, affecting what you believe can be possible.

There are limits to what a can-do, solution-oriented, enthusiastic attitude can do. Attitude can’t turn your riding lawn mower into a Ferrari but it can turn it into the best-driven, best-maintained mower around and perhaps into a lawn care service that allows you to buy a Ferrari. Attitude is NOT a magic wand but it can turbocharge whatever skills and prospects you have, add to the opportunities before you.

Attitude is a powerful edge and a tremendous advantage that is available to everyone regardless of education, inherent ability, or background. Your attitude is your edge. Don’t throw it away.
