Anyone can have a dream and anyone can daydream their life away. But are you willing to commit to a viable action plan to make your dream come true? Are you willing to do the hard work, commit to a process? Dreams without viable plans that link them to future realization are just a form of delusion, a way to distract yourself as you fritter your life away. Most folks go the same distance in life, it’s just that some wander in the wilderness while others find their North Star and make haste for the promised land, even if they have to cross a mountain range or two to get there.

Eleanor Roosevelt famously said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I prefer Henry David Thoreau’s quote “If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” Don’t kid yourself: The future belongs only to those willing to both dream and then do the work.

“All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” – T.E. Lawrence
