Playing without Goal Posts
“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” – Yogi Berra
Most folks go the same distance in life, just some go in circles. Create a plan, live every day with that plan in mind. Don’t know yet what you want? Take your best guess and Experiment! Most folks have at least a vague idea of what constitutes forward versus backward. Throw a dart forward and take three steps onward into the fog. For every step you take, another will appear. Keep going until the fog lifts and you see the far shore. You might have to adjust a bit, but you are far better off than if you stayed still.
Treating All Things as Equal
“The mark of a great man is one who knows when to set aside the important things in order to accomplish the vital ones.” – Brandon Sanderson, The Alloy of Law
Some tasks have the potential to make a much greater impact than others. Do the highest leverage things first, not the easiest or the quickest to accomplish. Folks tend to try to get the largest number of things off their to-do list instead of focusing on the most important things. If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.
Allowing Your Energy to Dissipate
“As the fletcher whittles and straightens his arrows, so the master directs his thoughts.” – Buddha
“If you knew the power of your thoughts, you would never think a negative thought.” – Peace Pilgrim
Stay solution oriented! Surround yourself with like-minded, forward focused individuals! If you focus on how great and terrible your problems are, you are sapping your energy, giving away your power. Stumbling blocks or stepping stones, it’s often just a matter of perspective. Regularly seek out sources of inspiration, drink deep and often. Your strength will be renewed and you will soar with the eagles!
As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
