How do we make “kindness the norm”? One way is by starting a “Kindness Log” where you record acts of kindness you have observed or done or of which you’ve been the beneficiary. Endeavor to give the gift of kindness daily as often as you can. Take the time to notice others and any special effort they make and express your admiration and appreciation. Specific praise frequently carries more impact than vague generalities: “Your comments on x were right on point and well summarized” means more than “Great talk”.
Remember birthdays and anniversaries. Look for opportunities to send notes of acknowledgement and recognition for such gracious courtesies mean a lot. The beautiful thing about kindness is that kindness begets kindness. Thoughtfulness, generosity, good-heartedness, courtesy: They are all contagious.
Kindness not only makes the world a better place but will improve your life, your disposition, your mental and physical well-being. And best of all? It costs you nothing and like a smile, no matter how often you share it, you still have plenty.
