Nec Aspera Terrent loosely translated means ‘fear not difficulty’ or more directly ‘rough things do not terrify’ and is the motto of both the American 27th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Wolfhounds, and the United Kingdom’s Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, translated more often as ‘No Fear.’
Resilience is key to success in life, the occurrence of adversity being a given. Resilience is a coping mechanism for life’s inevitable trials and tribulations and is actually more a combination of skills, abilities, and attitude than a single trait. The good news is resilience is very learnable, and it begins with a fear-reducing mindset: there is a solution to every problem and where there is a will, there is a way.
It is in surmounting difficulty and overcoming challenges that we are forged into our better selves, that we find our deepest strengths. Thus, fear not difficulty for within it lies your growth, the treasure of greater strength.
