Have you ever ‘lost that loving feeling?’ Days when you just couldn’t seem to find your rhythm? Life seemed a bit bleak and boring? Inspiration was a faded, distant memory and motivation seemed to have slip-slided away?
Don’t worry, we all have ‘valley’ times, ‘in-between’ times, dark side/back of the moon episodes; all very human and normal. The key is to find the fire again. For me, what works is movement. Get out and get busy, get around people that are upbeat and going places, doing things. Attitudes are contagious, their energy will pull you along. Action and emotion are tightly linked. One follows the other and the sequence doesn’t matter much. Your emotions move you to action and your actions can create your emotions.
Self-concept is a powerful motivator. I pack my own weight, I will live no ordinary life, the best I can be I must be. I will protect and provide for those I love. All these statements are core to my identity (and while the seeds were always there, it took lot of journaling and EQ work for them to become so strongly codified) and they are the well springs of my inspiration. I can rest, I can even plateau for a while (even saints must sleep, and priest need play) but I must forge on come the dawn.
Study yourself, learn your triggers and traps, sculpt and shape yourself, create the reserves and identity that will guide you through life’s inevitable squalls and doldrums, build your resilience, develop your self-concept. You have been programed unconsciously all your life by others and circumstances, time for you to take over! If you don’t shape your reality, reality will shape you.
