A lighthouse with a bright light shining through a cloudy sky

We all lose our way at times, adrift on the stormy seas of life, when the way is dark and the path rocky, strewn with boulders, snares and traps. It is then that we turn to others for guidance and support. To be a beacon for others in time of need; what higher calling can there be? A lighthouse is a steady symbol of strength, of guidance, shelter and the promise of safety and security, of eventual refuge and protection.

An open heart, compassionate and empathic, a clear sense of purpose, a willingness to listen deeply, without the need to judge or fix, grounded and calm, steady with an aura of stability and endued with a realistic optimism: all these traits make for a lighthouse to guide others to a safe harbor.

None of us have all of the above, at least not completely, but we can all cultivate these powerful abilities and in doing so we will also become a lighthouse unto ourselves.
