We all know what a moat is, a protective ditch that surrounds valuable real estate. Moats are usually wide and deep and down here in Florida, we stock ‘em with hungry alligators! Well, then, what is a mind moat?
A mind moat is a mental barrier that you erect around your mind (what more valuable real estate is there?) to safeguard your thoughts from the virus of negativity and pessimism. The things that you let take root in your mind, anything negative that you allow to slip through your mind moat, powerfully impacts your attitude, your energy, your effort level and enthusiasm.
Developing an effective mind moat requires more than that you monitor your thoughts – though that is vital as well – it means that you make the effort to consciously and proactively manage your outside environment. Primarily, this means surrounding yourself with positive, goal-oriented people who are bound and determined to make the best of themselves and want to help you do the same. It also means being a continuous learner, journaling for self-awareness, exercising, eating well, and last and far from least, finding sources of inspiration and making a life-long practice of visiting them regularly.
Ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things, but it helps tremendously if they are fully on their own side, if they never, ever let doubt, pessimism and negativity rent out space in their minds. Live the life you were born to live, strengthen your Mind Moat, always walk on the Sunny Side of the Street; I’d love to have you over here with me!
