“Progress doesn’t come from early risers — progress is made by lazy men looking for easier ways to do things.” – Robert Heinlein
Robert Heinlein is one of my favorite science fiction authors (‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ and ‘The Moon is a Harsh Mistress’) but I have to believe that he intended the above as ‘tongue in cheek’. I suspect his true message was that working smart is just as important if not more important than working hard. There is a LOT to be said for a clean sheet approach to every task, to always seeking the easiest possible legitimate path to the mountain top. However, even when we find a smarter, easier way our results will always be improved by working the new way as hard as possible.
