We all know the parable of the ‘Tortoise and the Hare’ where the turtle beats the rabbit because the rabbit takes a nap. While a wonderful example of the value of persistence and hard work, a deeper, better message is missed. What is the tortoise doing to develop? To find a better way? Where is the tortoise’s growth mindset?
The growth mindset concept was popularized by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck and is the knowing that you can grow your abilities and capabilities, develop your talents, and stands in contrast to the fixed mindset. While it is generally true that raw IQ cannot be raised, one can always improve one’s skill set by industrious application, by continuous learning, by having a voracious thirst for growth, and one’s EQ can always be raised. Unapplied intellect is proverbial and an ordinary person with a plan can often outperform a genius without a plan.
What is YOUR Growth Plan? Are you thinking about it? Or doing it? Day in and Day out? Faithfully, consistently? It is a form of loving yourself and others as well for as you grow, you demonstrate possibility.
