A powerful way to create the life of your dreams to adapt the “Growth Mindset” over the “Fixed Mindset”. What are your core beliefs about yourself, your abilities, your potential? Do you see yourself as a growing, learning, adapting, flexible, vibrant, student of life, absorbing, curiously exploring and expanding? Or is your self-image more fixed? You are what you are and you accept that. You are your background, your upbringing, your personality, likes and dislikes largely set in stone by now.
If so, that’s okay but please do realize how much of that is a choice and is it a choice that really serves you? Brings you the best life you could possibly have?
I’d be the first to admit that I have my routines that I am inordinately fond of, that I feel add stability to my life and provide a steady foundation. The last 50 years, I’ve lived within a few miles of where I went to 5th grade and my wife will tell you that once I find a vacation spot I like, I prefer to return annually!
At the same time, in many areas of my life I consciously choose to push boundaries, challenge limits, deliberately throwing away earlier “lessons”, old ways of thinking, remnants from the past that are no longer relevant. I prefer to think of myself as an ongoing work in progress, undergoing constant renovation, reaching out joyously toward each new and improved generation of me!
My affirmation for choosing the Next Draft of myself: “Today is a New Day and I am a New Nathan, free to make New Decisions”.
Closing Quote:
“Isn’t it strange how princes and kings,
and clowns that caper in sawdust rings,
and common people, like you and me,
are builders for eternity?
Each is given a list of rules;
a shapeless mass; a bag of tools.
And each must fashion, ere life is flown,
A stumbling block, or a Stepping-Stone.”
