Feelings are more transitory than we sometimes realize. Emotions are frequently like the rain and the sun; they come and they go. And just as we build shelter from the wind and the rain so to can we construct mental sanctuaries from the extremes of our emotions.

The first step is the realization that YOU do have the power! You are NOT your feelings, you have the ability to stand aside and manage your emotions, either to direct them into a safe outlet (Exercise! Punching bag! Private crying jag!) or to simply sit quietly and either re-frame into a positive mode or let them run their course, being careful not to feed them by looping the thought patterns that were their original genesis.
