- Desire is far, far more powerful than discipline. If it is what you truly want, you will blow through virtually any obstacle to get there. How to light the fires of desire? Visualization, affirmations, having written goals with action plans and timelines for all your major life roles that you regularly review, sources of inspiration that you visit regularly: these are the tools of the successful.
- Develop Self-Awareness/Self-Knowledge. I don’t know about you, but no one handed me an operating manual when I was born; I had to write my own and that’s okay because, just like you, I’m unique and my dreams and abilities are mine alone. BUT unless you take the time to reflect (Journal!) and review, it is all too easy to find yourself reflexively chasing goals that aren’t truly yours, that you’ve unconsciously absorbed from others, from social media or from your peers.
- Train Yourself to Stay Hungry; To Never Stop Learning: There is no such thing as too much knowledge; never stop preparing, continually update your “maps”, practice CANI: Continuing and Never-ending Improvement. The reality of life is that the goal posts are constantly moving, the world is ever changing.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” – Aristotle, 384 -322 BC
“Learning and innovation go hand in hand. The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow.” – William Pollard
“Very few persons, comparatively, know how to Desire with sufficient intensity. They do not know what it is to feel and manifest that intense, eager, longing, craving, insistent, demanding, ravenous Desire which is akin to the persistent, insistent, ardent, overwhelming desire of the drowning man for a breath of air; of the shipwrecked or desert-lost man for a drink of water; of the famished man for bread and meat.” – Robert Leo Collier, 1885-1950, Secret of the Ages/Riches Within Your Reach
As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
