“You are the way you are because that’s the way you want to be. If you really wanted to be any different, you would be in the process of changing right now.”
— Fred Smith, founder of Federal Express
Ouch! The truth hurts doesn’t it? Fred Smith really said it straight.
We may WANT to be different, better, stronger, more disciplined, focused, whatever, BUT we also want a lot of other things. Including not to be bothered or to put out too much effort or to have to change our routine.
We want to change, we want to improve but we also want to stay in our comfort zone as well. The two, comfort zones and change, don’t often go together well. So we must choose. Often we make a decision by indecision. We procrastinate, we waffle, we delay, we dilly-dally, thus ending up choosing to stay the way we are.
So face up to it. Embrace it. Accept it. You are the CEO of your life, it is yours to live. Either begin (today) to create the change you seek in your life OR admit to yourself that your dreams are just that: daydreams, fantasies, idle thoughts to pass the time. Just don’t delude yourself about why you are the way you are or sing the “some day” song, or blame circumstances or life or others.
Closing Quote:
“The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment, it is not in luck or chance, or the help of others; it is in yourself alone.” — Orison Swett Marden
