The most costly mistake in the world is the one from which you learn nothing. From an organization’s perspective, it’s the mistake that only one person learns from, the mistake that is hidden away or covered up. Learning organizations (i.e. the ones that survive best in this ever-changing world we live in) know that it is VITAL that “All learn from the experiences of one.” To ensure that the lessons of mistakes are widely shared and internalized, they make it a core cultural value to “Shun Shame” and instead “Revere Responsibility”.
Awards and recognition go to those who quickly “Fall on the Fumble” and who go on to become the “go to” person for solutions and advice when similar situations arise in the future.
Closing Quote:
“Most folks can learn from the mistakes of others but a few insist on making them themselves.”
As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
