None of us were put on this Earth to be ordinary. Each of us has a unique gift to discover, hone and polish, and offer to the world. Not sure of yours? Haven’t found it yet? Big Clue: the cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek… the greater the resistance, the greater the treasure. The challenges we accept and the mountains we choose to scale become the building blocks of our lives and character. The paths we select inevitably determine our journey and our destinations.
However, life is not just one mountain, one solitary challenge; rather it is an ongoing process and it is always possible to begin to coast, to start calling in our performance, to choose lesser, smoother routeways. We are kept from our greatest goals by easier paths to lesser goals.
How can we maintain our motivation? Our energy? Our enthusiasm? For me, the momentum principle works wonders. To quote Newton’s 1st Law: “An object in motion tends to stay in motion.” Once the summit of one mountain is in view, I begin casting about for the next mountain. Yes, I take time to celebrate, rest, and renew, however if I’ve done sufficient visualization, imagining, and dreaming… the next mountain calls me forward.
