The Harvard Business Review Nov/Dec 2017 feature article was on “Launching Successful Leaders: How to Make Sure Your Most Promising People Reach Their Highest Potential” (cover showed a rocket launch) and it listed 5 Predictors of Success (below) but did not really define or explain them. I liked the list so I filled it out a bit.
Motivation: The desire (the NEED) to DO things, accomplish tasks and goals, make something significant or meaningful happen.
Curiosity: The desire to know and acquire knowledge and skill, a wide ranging inquisitive interest, even if not directly related to a current task.
Insight: Understanding of a specific cause and effect within a specific context, ability to see complex relationships and comprehend their interactions over time. Wisdom. EQ.
Engagement: Fully absorbed by and enthusiastic about their tasks/mission; possessing a positive attitude.
Determination: Firmness of purpose; resoluteness, resolution, resolve, willpower, strength of character, single-mindedness, purposefulness, perseverance, persistence, tenacity, staying power, strong-mindedness, backbone, spirit, courage, pluck, grit, stout-hearted, guts.
Closing Quote:
“The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment; it is not in luck or chance, or the help of others; it is in yourself alone.” – Orison Swett Marden, 1850-1924
As always, I share what I most want and need to learn. – Nathan S. Collier
