Every action teaches the belief system that motivated it. Like it or not, we are all role models, we are on show 24/7. Every day, you have a chance to make the world a better place, take a few steps forward toward being the best you possible. Be courteous in a situation where it is a gift, where perhaps it is not technically warranted. Be kind simply because you can be. Be the first to “turn the other cheek” (Matthew 5:38/The Sermon on the Mount). I’m NOT saying be a passive victim or stay in situations that are abusive or non-productive (the wise farmer does not cast his seed upon rocky ground: Luke 8:6). I am saying move on into situations that support your growth, departing without rancor or harsh words.

When you embrace your role as a beacon, you set a high bar for yourself, none other. You do so not for any earthly reward or the admiration of others, you do so because it is the right thing to do, because it is who you’ve chosen to be. At the end of each day, you review your day and quietly, calmly, lovingly, gently coach yourself on any ways you could’ve moved closer to your best self. At the beginning of each day, you go to some source of inspiration and renew your vision. Even one affirmation deeply felt or single paragraph the speaks to you and that you carry in your heart throughout the day will make all the difference, especially so when you make it a faithful practice.
